Puppy Preschool
This program teaches puppies during their most important phase and lays the groundwork for more advanced training. Puppies will complete a 6-week AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program. STAR stands for Socialization, Training, Activity and a Responsible owner and in six weeks of STAR puppy classes.

 

Puppies Learn the Following Behaviors and Skills

• Free of aggression toward people and other puppies

• Tolerates collar or body harness of handler’s choice

• Handler can hug or hold puppy (depending on size)

• Puppy allows handler to take away a treat or toy

• Allows (in any position) petting by a person other than the handler

• Grooming-Allows body handling and brief exam (ears, feet)

• Walks on a Leash-Follows handler on lead in a straight line (15 steps)

• Walks by other people-Walks on leash past other people 5-ft away

• Sits on command

• Down on command

• Comes to handler from 5-ft when name is called

• Reaction to Distractions-distractions are presented 15-ft away

• Stay on leash with another person (handler walks 10 steps and returns
